February Fish
February fishing has been steady inshore and nearshore. Many HUNGRY anglers after triple tail and sheepshead. These fish enjoy cooler water temperatures and are abundant during our winer months. Anglers catch both species on light tackle and live bait. Triple tail will also chase artificial and fly's since they are an ambush feeder. Inshore fishing the flats and canal systems. Anglers are catching sheepshead, redfish, snook and snapper! Legal species go home for a fresh

Shrimp Boat Sharks
Every spring the cleaning shrimp boat sit nearshore. After a night of fishing they clean their nets, throwing back other species and shrimp waste , this calls in the sharks. Kind of like a dinner bell for multiple species. If you are lucky enough to catch them at the right moment ( and maybe hand over a few beers ) these shrimp fishermen will even help you out with bait. They are at sea for a few weeks and supplies start to run low, last year they also asked for soda and

Rocky Bottom Bites
Friends, and siblings Barry & Brittany, Jason, Eva set out to have an enjoyable Christmas break on the water. The lucked out with perfect conditions, smooth waters and the bite was great! This crew hooked into multiple Goliath Grouper, Amberjack and a Nurse Shark ( that ate the goliath bait) Jason jumped into the water making for a pretty cool photo. This shark species has a reputation for being less aggressive, but it has a mouth that resembles a garbage disposable. We k

1000lbs+ of Fish!
The Vestal family joined us for a day of fun in the sun! Goliath grouper was the goal of the day and these fish made it look easy at first. Hooking up right away ( with in the first 10 mins) to a 300lb+ fish. Better than coffee to wake you up in the morning. After that the bite slowed as the tide slacked and we decided to switch things up and move into the Gulf of Mexico. A bit wavy out there but everyone toughed it out for some BIG fish! Catching three more Goliath Gr

Shark & Snook Week!
Father and Daughter fishing crew this week. Eric and Courtlyn set out to hook up on some BIG fish over two days while vacationing in Florida. Being "shark week" on the discovery channel was a perfect time to hook up to some toothy critters. Day one we went for Goliath Grouper first. Although they are pretty picky for their reputation for being a reef glutton. If you don't have the right bait, it can make or break your trip. Thankfully for us the reef was alive as we pul

BIG Fish Battle
Our guests today were father and sons looking to hook into some big fish. We fished nearshore for Goliath Grouper. These fish are especially active during the warm summer months. They stick to our nearshore reefs in large numbers to spawn. Giving anglers the opportunity to hook into multiple fish and really test their strength. The brothers hooked into a few getting them boat side for photos and fin clippings for FWC ( Florida Fish and Wildlife) We are helping them with

How many sharks can you catch?
This week we concurred the sharks! Six of them to be exact, they were caught and released. Mostly blacktip and spinner sharks today which are a fun fight on spinning gear. Sharks of all shapes and sizes follow the tarpon in to the passes and along the beaches. The Grindle family from Ohio hooked into countless sharks during their recent vacation. We love when our returning guests bring friends! All sharks were released after de-hooking #Sharkfishing

Spring Break & Big Fish
The next week is one of the last for spring breakers. Nothing is better than bring back a great fish story from vacation! My guests today, the Phelps family from California hooked into some sharks and goliath grouper. Right now, in the area, clients are catching mostly blacktip and spinner sharks. The larger bull sharks, lemons and hammerheads will show up in the next few weeks as the tarpon become more widespread. Grace and Jack did a GREAT job with their sharks. Da

Spring Sharks
This week I've been shark fishing. Spring time is known for being successful with a variety of species. As the month continues larger sharks will move into the passes following the tarpon. An easy meal for a hungry predator. Kyle and Ryan hooked into some nice spinner and blacktip sharks during their trip. Spinner sharks get their name from their arial skills. Jumping out of the water in a spinning motion when hooked or chasing prey. Nice catches guys! All sharks pi

Birthday Sharks
Behlah and family from Ohio spent the day on the water exploring SWFL. They are regular guests aboard and we’ve grown to know their family well. We started the day catching bait. Sharks eat a variety of fish, today we were using jacks and mullet as bait. In the warmer months we use stingray. Beulah was celebrating her birthday, she hooked up to quite the fight. She fought a few sharks during her trip. Tagging one for Gray Fishtag Research. During our charters, anglers

Bull Shark RECAPTURE
In April 2016 we tagged a few sharks near Boca Grande, one of our bullsharks has been recaptured. This shark swam all the way to Alabama! It was tagged my a PHD student Megan McKinzie. She also added a satilite tag so they will be able to track the sharks movement further! We are sending her some BIG BULLY gear and Gray's Fishtag is sending her a thank you package as well. Read the entire report on their website. #Shark #sharktagging #sharkfishing #recapture #bullshar

Grab a Tiger By Its Tail
As a fishermen you hear a lot of "fish tales" exaggerated sizes and species. An unbelievable battle of strength and tenacity. Once in awhile you actually get to live them. Its a BIG ocean and you never know what will be on the end of your line. This week Ted & Sheila joined us for a shark fishing trip. With the tarpon filling the passes and spilling out all over, sharks are a fun catch this time of year. We set up on a local wreck a few miles off the beach. We set d

Sharks & Goliath Grouper
Mark joined us all the way from Texas and wanted to hook up on some Florida fish! We started the day bow fishing for sting rays, a sharks & grouper favorite. He caught a 7 foot bull shark right away, not a bad way to start the morning. Next he wanted to try to hook into a goliath grouper, and boy did he! The fish he hooked hung him up 3 times before he could pull it out of the structure. The 600lb line did its job, pulling his catch out. It was filled with other hooks an

Raygin & Steve Near Shore Trip
Raygin & Steve have fished with me for years. They have been traveling to Florida yearly for vacation. All those great times, and fun in the sun convinced them to buy a house right here in town. We took them out to celebrate becoming Florida residents and to explore the gulf of Mexico! Our local weather has been iffy. Day to day you never know what the gulf is going to look like. When we saw 2 feet or less on the NOAA forecast we set out towards the west. We couldn't

Don, Patricia & Heather
Christams eve on the water with Don, Patricia and Heather. We had an action packed day in the Gulf of Mexico. Don caught the first fish of the day, a blue runner. He was pretty surprised when I immediately put a 20/0 circle hook though it and sent it to the bottom. I told him we were going to upgrade him. Time passed and we hooked up to a few more nice catches. Big Mangrove Snapper, great to take home for dinner. Sharks started to come in when the jacks showed up. The

Winter Cobia
Nikki set out with us on a sporting day. Seas have been rough due to warm windy weather, we stayed close and hoped our chumslick would call something in for a bite. Our fish finder was showing great activitiy when we pulled on to the structure. Some baits were freelined, 50lb bullbuster main line to 60lb leader to a 6/0 circle hook. Others were sent to the bottom with a simple knocker rig. All of the baits sent to the bottom were picked up and broken off by goliath group

Hammer Time
This week on my calendar is marked with a hammerhead. I never for a second thought this would actually become a reality. Friday evening we set out with one thing in mind. Searching for a spring time hammerhead. In the 4 years we have been shark fishing we had yet to catch our own. The tides seemed just right and Andrew hurried to get baits in the water. No more than 45 mins later Andrew was hooked up and the drag was screaming! The fight was short lived though. 10
