Inshore Boca Grande

This week my clients fished inshore. Boca Grande, Charlotte harbor and Gasparialla sound. Mild temperatures making it a great week to be out on the water. Guests caught a variety of species on cut bait including snook. These fish are a fun catch and release on light tackle, guests catch them using penn battle II 2500 series reels.

Guest Steve, also did some bow fishing this week. Cruising the flats searching for shootable species.

Most common during winter months are sting rays, mullet and sheepshead. Anglers get lucky and take aim at a cobia! If its legal to spear, you can bow-fish for it! Check the FWC spearing guidelines for further information.

He did a great job, learning to aim a bit differently than your traditional hunting. We took his sting rays home for a shark fishing charter later in the week. He was shooting an AMS bow fishing bow.

Redfish have been biting on live jumbo shrimp. I rig mine on a jig head, the larger the shrimp the better. Like the snook they have been eating cut bait as well, mullet or cut pinfish a redfish favorite. Our clients tagged and released a few of their catches this week for Gray Fish Tag Research. If recaptured the angler who reports it ( with a photo as proof) receives a thank you package that includes a FREE pair of costa sunglasses. Be on the lookout for the green colored tags, each one has a unique identifying number. Fish are easy to report on their website, snap a photo of the tag or write down the number and measurement if possible. Scientists rely on YOU for great recapture data that could help our fish grow and thrive for further generations to come.
